Prominent Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife will be honored at a press conference at Al-Ahram on Thursday, ahead of two performances with both of his sons, Rami and Bachar, scheduled for 24 and 25 October in Cairo and Alexandria.
Khalife is one of the biggest icons in Arab music. A masterful composer, singer and oud player, his career includes many music projects, the first of which was Al-Mayadeen Ensemble, launched in 1976. Many of his compositions use the work of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, which, along with his skill, artistic sensitivity and humane message, has garnered him a large revolutionary following both in Lebanon and abroad.
This weekend's concerts are organised by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Arts Centre. This will be the first time for Marcel, Rami and Bachar Khalife to perform as the newly established Khalife Trio, introducing their family project to Egyptian audiences.
