Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy faces another two weeks on the sidelines due to a knee injury, the Cairo giants said on Sunday.

The 30-year-old goalie has been at the centre of controversy during the past couple of weeks after reports suggested he had deliberately skipped Egypt's double-header against Botswana in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The reports were fuelled by a statement from Egypt's national team doctor in which he said he was sure Ekramy was not injured but that did not materalise, as the shot-stopper also missed Ahly's Egyptian Premier League games against Ittihad El-Shorta and Ismaily.

"Medical scans have shown that Ekramy suffers from knee problems and he needs further two weeks to recover and return to training," Ahly football supervisor Alaa Abdel-Sadek said on the club's official website.

"He will undergo further scans after those two weeks to make sure has completely recovered."

Ekramy has been Egypt's regular keeper since veteran Essam El-Hadary fell out with the national team last year.

Ahly will miss him again when they face top-flight debutants Assiouti Sport in the Premier League on Monday.
