On 6 December, the Nile Sunset Annex will launch an exhibition showcasing works by late visual artists Ali Jabri and Mounir Canaan.
The show is comprised of three pieces: one large collage by Egypt's celebrated contemporary artist Canaan, and two pencil drawings by Jabri. Jabri is one of the Arab world's most prominent artists. Of Syrian decent, he was born in Jerusalem and studied in England and the US. He settled in Amman, Jordan, in the late 1970s and remained there until his death in 2002.
"The two artists’ work share a formal elegance, a sense of curiosity, and a practiced manual dexterity," announced the organisers.
The Garden City-based contemporary art space will display a replica of Hans-Peter Feldmann's 'Hat with Photograph' alongside the actual piece, which was granted on loan from Beirut, another Cairo-based contemporary art gallery. A visual presentation about doubles and fakes will accompany the show, shedding light on ongoing conversation on the practice of recreating artwork.
Meanwhile, to accompany his recent solo exhibition at the Annex, Mohaned Nur produced a 3D-printed sculpture, which will be sold during the opening ceremony.
