Security forces on Friday dispersed a small protest in Cairo’s Abdel-Moneim Riyadh Square against the recent dropping of charges against former president Hosni Mubarak. , a few hundred metres from Tahrir Square near Tahrir square against the acquittal of ousted president Mubarak.
Nearly 50 people gathered in the central Cairo Square on Friday afternoon, chanting against the Mubarak judgement as well the current government.
Security forces dispersed the small protest after verbal scuffles with a small group of pro-Mubarak supporters.
The security forces also arrested a group of protesters who attempted to storm Tahrir Square, a few metres away from Abdel-Moneim Riyadh and blocked off to traffic, according to the interior ministry.
Several revolutionary groups, including the April 6 Youth Movement, the Revolutionary Socialists, the Youth for Justice and Freedom, the Constitution Party and the Strong Egypt Party declared that they would hold a demonstration against the verdict to drop charges against Mubarak of killing protesters.
Mubarak was also acquitted last Saturday of charges of corruption.
The court also cleared former interior minister Habib El-Adly and six of his top aides of charges of killing protesters.
