A court in the Moroccan city of Casablanca has condemned the chauffeur of popular traditional singer Abdellah el-Bidaoui to life imprisonment for murdering him, a judicial source said Friday.
The source, who named the convict only as Salaheddine C, said the verdict was handed down Tuesday and that an accomplice to the crime was jailed for two years for handling stolen property.
El-Bidaoui, 64, was famed at home and in France for his renditions of Morocco's traditional Aita music.
He was found dead on his bed at his villa in the northwestern town of Mohammedia in September 2013, local newspapers said.
Police later arrested the chauffeur in possession of money and jewellery belonging to the singer.
