Turnout in the Tunisian presidential runoff was 14.04% during the first hours of voting, according to the electoral commission.
The Independent High Electoral Commission (Instance Supérieure Indépendante pour les Élections – ISIE) held its first press conference at its headquarters to announce the initial turnout.
Tunisians headed early Sunday to polling stations to elect their first president after a four-year transition period. The runoff is between the Beiji Caid Essebsi, 88, the former Ben Ali's regime figure who won 39 percent in the first round, and the 69-year current president, Moncef Marzouki, who won 33 percent.
