Cristiano Ronaldo has issued an apology on his personal Twitter account after he lashed out against an opponent during Real Madrid's 2-1 La Liga win over Cordoba on Saturday.

Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo looks to have lost his nerves during the league game, which saw him kick out at Cordoba's Edimar before seeing red by the referee.

But the Portugal winger was quick to apologise for his demeanor, which came when the result was tied at 1-1 with just eight minutes left, on Twitter.

"I apologise to everyone and especially Edimar for my reflex action in today's game," the tweet said.

Ronaldo, who had a very frustrating evening with zero shots on target, could face a three-match ban for his red card.
