من خرج من داره اتقل مقداره

Men kharag men darouh etqall meqdarouh

Translation: He who leaves his home reduces his worth.

Meaning: In your hometown, in your village or country, your knowledge is appreciated, as it is relevant to the locals; also your family background and status are acknowledged. But in other towns and places you may not receive the same appreciation, and will have to prove yourself all the time. It is not clear if this is advice for people to stay put, not to change their lives too much. Or is it more like, "Go ahead and leave, but you'll be sorry!"
