Cairo International Film Festival for Children returns, changes name

After a two year hiatus, the 22nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival for Children is scheduled to kick off on 20 March, with a new name

Thirty six countries will be represented in the upcoming Cairo International Cinema and Arts Festival for Children, launching its 22nd edition on 20 March. 

Previously called the Cairo International Film Festival for Children, the 21st edition took place in 2012. The festival was cancelled in 2011 on the heels of political unrest caused by the unseating of President Hosni Mubarak. It was cancelled in 2013 and again in 2014. 

This year, the selection committee for long features, shorts and documentary films is headed by Egyptian film critic Khaireya El-Bishlawy.

Meanwhile, the program selection for animation films is lead by Showeikar Khalifa. 

Some of the participating countries are: the UK, Holland, the United States, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, India, South Korea, the Philippines, Greece, France, Lithuania, Poland, Argentine and Jordan.  

The festival will run until 27 March.
