Ahly football sector manager Alaa Abdel-Sadek has praised the Egyptian Premier League for its decision to resume the season.
"This decision saved Egyptian clubs from many crises and it was a must," Abdel-Sadek told reporters Thursday.
The cabinet decided Wednesday to resume the league behind closed doors starting on 30 March, after its suspension since the Cairo Air Defence stadium disaster on 8 February.
"Ahly will play a friendly on 24 March but we have not determined the opponent yet," he added.
The Egyptian Premier League as well as the other football competitions have been frozen since 8 February, when 20 Zamalek supporters were killed after police forces used teargas to disperse a crowd of fans attempting to enter the Air Defence Stadium ahead of a league match with ENPPI.
Holders Ahly are third in the table with 36 points, five short of second-placed ENPPI and eight adrift of leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek.
