The radical leftist Revolutionary People's Liberation Party–Front (DHKP-C ) has kidnapped the general prosecutor who investigated the killing of 15-year-old  Berkin Elvan.

A photo of the prosecutor, Mohamet Selinkiraz, being held with a gun to his head was posted on Twitter from a very new account, and was re-tweeted rapidly.

Berkin Elvan had been in a coma for nine months when he died on 11 March 2014 after being struck by a teargas canister fired by police during the Gezi park protests.

The DHKP-C is a leftist group founded in 1978. It has carried a number of attacks, suicide bombing and assassinations in Turkey, and is considered a terrorist group by Turkey, the US, and the EU.

The group claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at the US embassy in Istanbul last year, according to Turkish newspaper Today Zaman.
