Two teenagers drowned after they went swimming off the El-Maghrabi beach in Egypt's Port Said on Monday, according to police, as Egyptians nationwide celebrated Sham El-Nessim, a national holiday that marks the beginning of spring.
Seventeen-year-old Mohamed Tawfik and Khaled Nazeer, 16, whose bodies were identified by relatives, both hailed from the northern governorate of Damietta, according to the Ahram’s Arabic news website.
Investigations are still underway to confirm that their death was not the result of a criminal act.
Meanwhile, a certain Mohamed Ali also drowned on Monday while swimming near BarBar Island in Aswan.
The drowning has been confirmed to be an accident.
