Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened a meeting on Thursday with the country's interior minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar and a number of security and military leaders to discuss the country's security situation.
State news agency MENA said the meeting addressed the latest plans to combat "terrorism" and cooperation between military and police in the face of a burgeoning Islamist insurgency since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
Hundreds have since been killed in the Sinai Peninsula-based violence that has mainly targeted police and troops.
An Egyptian soldier was killed and three others injured on Thursday when a roadside bomb hit an armoured vehicle in the North Sinai region.
On Wednesday, two students from a military academy were killed when a bomb blast hit a minibus in the Nile Delta city of Kafr El-Sheikh.
Smaller-scale attacks have also targeted other mainland cities including the capital Cairo, and led to civilian casualties.
