The municipal council of Cairo governorate started Saturday putting into effect a parking ban on the sideways of a main road linking the upscale Zamalek district to Downtown Cairo.

The ban on 26th of July Street is part of a wider campaign by local authorities to control traffic jams.

The municipal council recently introduced a four-level underground garage in Tahrir Square and has since gradually banned parking in Downtown streets.

It has also relocated street vendors to a nearby garage.
