Founded and conducted by Ahmed Atef, the Sound of Egypt Orchestra aims at reviving music from well-known Egyptian movies.
The orchestra also provides a platform for well-established and young talented composers to present their soundtracks to a wider audience.
In each concert, Atef chooses a leading theme for the soundtracks. In the last concert, the music was drawn from comedy movies.
During the upcoming concert, on Friday 8 May, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra will play soundtracks with a "national" theme.
Atef picked compositions from films such as Al-Kahira 30 (Cairo 30), a 1966 Egyptian drama film directed by Salah Abu Seif; Kasr El Shawk, a 1967 drama based on a novel by Naguib Mahfouz and directed by Hassan Al Imam; Al Ard by Youssef Chahine (1969), among many other iconic Egyptian movies.
The soundtracks' composers include Ali Ismail, Omar Khairat, Ammar El-Sherei and Atef himself, among others.
