PROGRAMME: Week of documentaries, part of Hybrid Reels at Zawya

Seven documentaries will include Citizenfour and Concerning Violence

Cairo arthouse screen Zawya is to show seven documentary films from 20 to 26 May, including Laura Poitras’ Citizenfour and Goran Olsson’s Concerning Violence, which are both to be followed by open discussions with Egyptian academics.

Zawya will also host Egyptian director Dina Hamza and producer Marianne Khoury for a Q&A session following the screening of Hamza’s film The Past Will Return.

The documentary films all feature in a programme titled ‘Highlights’, the last part of Zawya’s three-week Hybrid Reels programme, whose first two parts included ‘Narratives’ (6-12 May) and ‘Anthropology on the Screen/Beginnings’ (15-17 May).

An animated conversation with Noam Chomsky

The film will be followed with an open discussion.
The screening is in partnership with Mada Masr and Motoon.

Saturday 23 May

The Amina Profile - Directed by Sophie Deraspe

Concerning Violence - Directed by Goran Olsson
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Professor Hanan Sabea, Chair of the Sociology/Anthropology department at the American University in Cairo.

Finding Vivian Maier - Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel

The Past Will Return (Gai El Zaman) - Directed by Dina Hamza
The film will be followed by a Q&A with director Dina Hamza and producer Marianne Khoury.
