Striker Mohamed "Gedo" Nagi, whose current contract with Ahly is to expire next month, has extended his stay with the team for another spell without disclosing the financial or period of the new deal, the club announced.

The Egypt ace has been sidelined due to a longstanding injury, having undergone knee surgery last season.

Gedo was supposed to get back in action after only six months, but had to go through a longer rehabilitation programme in Germany, with pain in his knee lasting longer than expected.

The 31-year-old striker returned to action in March but his injury flared up and he had to leave the team's squad to undergo a rehab programme.

"Gedo prefers not to announce the period and financial details of his new contract with the team," Ahly football director Wael Gomaa told an Egyptian television programme late on Thursday.

"The club management decided to extend Gedo's stay to put to rest rumours that the striker will leave," he added.

Gedo's contract with Ahly was to expire at the end of the ongoing season.

The striker made a rare appearance with team two weeks ago during the 4-0 win over El-Geish in the Egyptian Premier League as scored his opener since his absence.
