Initial reports suggested that the justice minister had cancelled annual judicial leave to honour the death of chief prosecutor Hisham Barakat who was assassinated in a car bomb on Monday

Justice Minister Ahmed El-Zend has denied the cancellation of annual judicial leave this year, state news agency MENA reported.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, Hamdy Abd El Tawab of the technical office of the Justice Minister, stated that the minister is "keen to achieve justice and will submit proposals to the council of ministers in order to proceed faster on delayed cases".

Earlier reports suggested that El-Zend had decided to cancel annual judicial leave this year to close ongoing cases in all courts.

Judicial leave lasts for a period of three months every year, from July to September.

The decision came in honour of chief prosecutor Hisham Barakat who was assassinated in a car bomb on Monday close to his home in Heliopolis.
