A tour of Cairo's Al-Manial Palace followed by a visit to the city's Andalusian Garden is planned for next Friday by the Youth of the Museum for Encouraging Tourism, a Facebook page that regularly organises cultural events.

Al-Manial Palace was built in 1901 by Prince Mohamed Ali, son of Khedive Tawfiq and cousin of King Farouk I, and boasts an impressive mix of styles in its architecture and decoration, including Andalusian, Ottoman, Fatimid, and Mamluk, as well as Persian and Moroccan influences.

The tour will explore the palace's reception hall, the residence compound, the throne room, the mosque and the hunting museum on the premises, as well as the clock tower.

In his will, Prince Mohamed requested the palace be turned into a museum. In 1908, it was registered on Egypt’s Heritage List for Islamic Monuments. 

The palace was closed in 2005 for restoration until it re-opened this March.

After the palace, the tour group will head to the Andalusian Garden in Zamalek. Transportation between the two landmarks is by boat.

The garden is one of Cairo's historic public gardens, established by Mohamed Zulficar Pasha in 1935 during the final days of King Fouad’s rule.

Competitions and games are planned during the time in the garden.

The group’s meeting point will be the palace clock tower, between 9:30am and 10am.

The tour is for free but registration is required. Entrance charges apply at the two sites.
