The Egyptian army has expressed its condolences to the families of three UAE soldiers reported killed in Saudi-led operations against the Houthi rebel group in Yemen.

In a statement, Egypt's armed forces spokesman said that the soldiers had died on Saturday “while performing their national duty among Arab forces to restore security and stability" in Yemen.

Egypt and the UAE are both part of a Saudi-led Arab military campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, which began in March.

The Egyptian armed forces have participated in the campaign via its airforce and naval forces.

Egypt and the UAE have been close allies since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

On Tuesday, Egypt and the UAE signed four protocols for the delivery of $4.9 billion-worth of development projects in Egypt, to be carried out by the Gulf state in the fields of education, transportation, and health.
