Part of promotional material for Waheed, directed by Reda Hassanein
Directed by Reda Hasanein, the play and dance piece Waheed’an (Alone) is inspired by surrealist painter Salvador Dali’s work and life.
By depicting his internal struggles as a fight with his own shadow named Al-Gonoun (Madness), the plot follows Dali on an existential journey which starts with his painting The Egg. The play explores the artist’s battle with madness and his attempts to emerge from his own dark thoughts to find peace.
Mohamed Fawzy choreographs the dance and stars as Dali, alongside supporting actors Alaa Al-Naquib, Maher Mahmoud, and Menna El-Gamal.
In the announcement of the event, Fawzy describes the work as “a reflection on current times through the work of Dali.”
Waheed’an was performed last April at Malk Theatre downtown.
