Deadly road accidents occur almost daily in Egypt

Eight people were killed and six wounded when two vehicles collided on a highway near Upper Egypt's Beni Suef province on Tuesday.

The accident occurred when a bus rammed into a truck on a highway between Beni Suef and the southern Fayoum province, causing the truck to flip over, Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Most of those injured were reported to have been in a serious condition.

Beni Suef is almost 100 km (62 miles) south of Cairo.

Traffic accidents claim around 12,000 lives a year in Egypt, according to the World Health Organization.

Crashes are often blamed on reckless driving, poor infrastructure, and loosely enforced traffic regulations.
