Prominent actor Ali Hassanein has died at the age of 76 on Wednesday.

Born on 13 January 1939, the Egyptian actor appeared in tens of films and television series alongside Egypt’s biggest stars.

Hasanein's funeral will be held in his hometown, the mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Throughout his acting career, Hassanein became known for his important secondary roles in movies such as Ice Cream fe Gelim (1992), The Kit Kat (1991) and Searching for Sayed Marzouk (1990).

He also acted in many television series. His most notable roles came in the Raafat El-Hagan series (1990 and 1991), Opera Aida (2000), Freska (2004), Sarah (2005) and El-Solouk (2015), which was screened during the month of Ramadan.

Hassanein also contributed as a voice-over in many Disney movies that were dubbed in Arabic. His roles included Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas and Zeus in Hercules.
