Ahly have dropped German-Brazilian midfielder Hendrik Helmke and Nigerian forward Peter Ebimobowei from their squad for the new season just six months after being brought in.
The Cairo giants announced their 25-man list on Thursday and decided to omit the names of Helmke and Ebimobowei in order to make way for their new summer signings.
Originally bought in January, the two foreign players failed to live up to the expectations and made only a few appearances.
Ebimobowei, 21, struggled with injuries throughout the season and scored only 1 goal in a handful of games.
While 27-year old Helmke played only two games and spent most of his spell watching the games from home.
The Red Devils went on a spending spree this summer to bolster their squad after losing this year's premier league title to arch-rivals Zamalek.
Gabon striker Malick Evouna, marksmen John Antwi from Ghana, Mohamed Hamdi, international midfielder Saleh Gomaa, former versatile defender Ahmed Fathi and rising star winger Ahmed El-Sheikh have been recruited to restore the team's domination.
Meanwhile, former Egyptian striker Mohamed Nagy "Gedo" and Ahmed Abdel-Zaher were surprisingly included in the squad despite rumours they were close to the exit door.
