Egypt's Giza Zoo announced on Thursday the death of its famous Orangutan "Bongo" due to the heat wave that has hit the country recently.
In a small statement published on Giza Zoo's official Facebook page on Thursday, the zoo administration announced that the 23-year old orangutan passed away on Wednesday after suffering from "heat stasis" for 3 days.
Bongo, a male Organutan, was a gift from Al-Ain Zoo in the U.A.E where he was born along with two other Organutans, one male and one female.
Bongo leaves behind his widow "Titi" who is under the surveillance of the veterinary team at the zoo.
The zoo's administration is currently using fire engines to shower the animals and their cages to fight off the heat wave and its effect on the animals.
Egypt is being hit by an unprecedented heat wave which has left at least 76 dead as a result.
