Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny continued his fine start to the new season when he was on target to help Basel claim a 3-1 victory over Lugano in the Swiss league on Saturday.
The 23-year-old put Basel 2-1 up three minutes before the break after they trailed to an early goal, slotting into an empty net on the second attempt after a shot was parried by the keeper into his path.
Davide Calla added the third early in the second half as defending champions Basel moved eight points clear at the top of the table after six games.
Elneny, a regular member of Basel's starting line-up, opened his account this season in Basel's 4-0 victory over Meyrin in last week's Swiss Cup game, firing in an unstoppable shot.
