Layla Min Alf Layla (One Night from a Thousand Nights), starring Egyptian actor Yehia El-Fakharany and directed by Mohsen Helmi, opened on 13 August at Egypt's National Theatre, and will continue for several weeks.
The performance is based on the poetry of late Egyptian poet Bayram Al-Tunsi and the music of late Egyptian composer Ahmed Sedki.
The crew comprises of Egyptian actress Heba Magdy, singer Mohamed Mohsen, actor Lotfy Labib as well as Diaa Abdelkhalek, Salma Gharib and the National Theatre's artists.
This is El-Fakharany's first play since he starred in William Shakespeare’s King Lear in 2001.
Egypt's iconic theatre recently reopened its doors after a six-year hiatus in December 2014. It was closed in 2008 following a fire that caused considerable damage.
