87 NGOs to observe Egypt's parliamentary polls: High Elections Committee

Eighty-seven NGOs are allowed to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in Egyptian including six that are foreign

The High Elections Committee "HEC" announced on Tuesday that 87 NGOs have been permitted to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in Egypt including foreign NGOs, Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to HEC, 81 Egyptian NGOs and six foreign NGOs will observe the parliamentary elections set to be held later on this year. 

The committee also announced that 44 press and media institutions, as well as 13 news websites would be allowed to cover the elections. 

The committee also revealed that 768 foreign media correspondents have registered to cover the elections across Egypt. 

The HEC will start handing the official permits to the journalists and NGOs starting from the 26th until the 30th of August. 

Egyptian officials including President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi have stated repeatedly that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Egypt would be held before the end of the year.
