The five Muslim Brotherhood members were found guilty of bombing a railway line

An Alexandria military court sentenced five Muslim Brotherhood members to 15 years in jail for bombing railway tracks in Beheira governorate, reported Ahram Arabic website on Sunday.

The prosecution had accused the defendants of several charges including the bombing of the railways, sabotaging a public facility and endangering people's lives.

On 5 January 2015 the Cairo-Alexandria railway was bombed at a village close to the city of Damnhur in Beheira governorate, in the Nile Delta region.

Hundreds of civilian cases have been referred to military court since the 2011 uprising that toppled veteran strongman Hosni Mubarak. The practice has faced strong opposition from rights campaigners and pro-democracy advocates.

The Muslim Brotherhood was designated a terrorist organisation in 2013.
