The MET Opera live transmissions will begin at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 3 October with a screening of Il Trovatore, starring internationally renowned Anna Netrebko as Leonora.
The Verdi opera's live transmission is the first in the season of the MET programme that will offer 10 operas broadcasted to its subscribers across the world.
The upcoming months will also include Verdi's Othello (17 October), Wagner's Tannhäuser (31 October), Berg's Lulu (21 November), Mozart's Magic Flute (12 December), among several other operatic gems before the season’s end.
Tickets for the screenings at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina cost LE75.
This year marks the tenth season of the international high definition transmissions from New York.
The initiative was launched in December 2006 and became very popular, gaining a total of almost one million viewers worldwide in its second season. Today, over 70 countries across six continents -- over 2000 screens (including 750 in the USA) -- have joined the network.
In October 2010, Egypt introduced the transmissions of Met Opera at Gouna (Red Sea) and the Cairo Opera House in Cairo.
This will be the first time that the transmissions will cross to audiences in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria.
