Zamalek's Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira says his team was lucky to score early in Monday's 2-0 win over rivals Ahly, clinching their third successive Egypt Cup title.
Prolific striker Basem Morsi scored twice (11th and 34th minutes) to help Zamalek beat Ahly, a victory that marked the league winners' first domestic double (league and Cup titles) since 1988.
"Our main strategy was to score an early goal and we were lucky to achieve that," Ferreira told Sada El-Balad TV channel after the match.
"We had the upper hand in the first half as we were able to end it scoring 'three goals'. In the second half Ahly became better but even under that pressure we were able to score again," he added.
Under the helm of Ferreira this season, Zamalek earlier ended an 11-year league drought after clinching their 12th domestic title, beating off competition from then title-holders Ahly.
Zamalek will face Tunisian side Etoile Sportive de Sahel in Tunisia on Sunday in the first-leg of the Confederation Cup semis.
