The seventh edition of the Cairo Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place from 15 to 18 October at the American University in Cairo's Greek Campus in the city's downtown.
This year’s line-up includes an array of Egyptian artists and bands such as the Riff Band, Akram El-Sharkawy Group, Egyptian-Nubian band Hawidro, the Nour Project band, oriental jazz band Eftekasat, among others.
The festival will also host international jazz musicians and bands from France, Algeria, Lebanon, Denmark, Iraq, Japan, Austria, Czech Republic, Morocco, Portugal, Venezuela, Australia and the US.
The festival’s opening on 15 October will feature famed Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich, who will present her latest musical project Hawa, the winner of the 2014 Arab Creativity Award.
On 16 October, renowned Iraqi oud player Naseer Shamma will perform with the Danish Blood Sweat Drum ‘n’ Bass orchestra. The concert will present the Road to Damascus, a recent project by the band based on the works of iconic Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani, to be performed in English.
Algerian singer Souad Massi will perform at the festival’s closing on 18 October, where she will present her latest musical project El-Mutakallimun (Masters of the Word).
Cairo Jazz Festival was founded by Egyptian musician Amro Salah in 2009.
