Iranian death toll from hajj stampede hits 90: Official

The number of Iranians among the hundreds killed Thursday in a stampede during the annual hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia has reached 90, an official told state media.

Said Ohadi, head of Iran's hajj organisation, outlined the toll -- double that of his last update -- on state television and radio, noting that the names of those who died would be listed on the official IRNA news agency website.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian earlier blamed the deaths on safety errors and Saudi "tactlessness" in dealing with pilgrims, and said the kingdom's top envoy in Tehran had been summoned.
