Ahmed Mortada Mansour and Amr El-Shobaki are set to compete in a runoff for the remaining seat  on the individuals-system seats in the Dokki and Agouza constituency of Giza in the first phase of Egypt's parliamentary elections.

Egypt's High Elections Committee (HEC) announced on Wednesday that Abdel-Rehim Ali has secured one of the two seats reserved for independents in the district.

On Monday, the HEC had announced on Monday that Abdel-Rehim Ali received 45,490 votes, followed by Ahmed Mortada Mansour with 24,607, Amr El-Shobaki who got 19,638 and Sayed Gohar with 10,853 votes. Those figures suggested that no one candidate won an absolute majority in the district thus making a four-way runoff imminent.

However, tallies of ballots cast finalised late on Monday showed that Abdel-Rehim garnered more than 50% necessary to make it to parliament without a run off.

The constituency has been described as the "celebrity constituency," due to competition between four well-known public figures.

Ali is a controversial TV host known for his anti- 25-January Revolution stances. Mansour is the son of the Zamalek chairman and sits on the board, El-Shobaki is a renowned liberal political scientist who sat in the 2011 parliament and Gohar is a former-NDP MP who had occupied the Dokki and Agouza seat for 20 years.

The run-off will take place on 27 and 28 October.

Correction: Ahram Online had reported on Tuesday that a four-way runoff would take place in the district.
