The High Elections Committee (HEC) announced on Tuesday afternoon that the number of Egyptian expats that participated in the first stage of parliamentary elections this week was 30,531.

The number of spoilt votes totaled 1856, while correct votes amounted to 28,675 in 139 embassies and consulates around the world, the HEC revealed during a press conference at their headquarters in Cairo.

The first stage of the parliamentary elections was held abroad on 17-18 October. 

The North, Middle and South Upper Egypt electoral lists received 22,977 correct votes and 1048 spoilt votes out of a total of 24,035, the HEC said.

The West Delta electoral list received 6,240 correct votes and 85 spoilt votes out of a total of 6,350.    

The results of Individual seat contests in the first stage of parliamentary elections for Egyptians abroad will be announced on Wednesday. 

Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that there are 700,000 registered Egyptian voters abroad.   

The second stage of the parliamentary elections, when voters from the remaining 13 governorates will cast their ballots, will take place on 21-22 November for Egyptians abroad, and 22-23 November for voters at home.
