Israel has freed a Palestinian who earlier this year conducted an unprecedented 66-day hunger strike.
Mohammed Allan returned to the West Bank after spending one year in an Israeli jail for suspected links to a militant group. Israel's Supreme Court suspended Allan's detention in August when his health deteriorated and he ended his hunger strike.
But after his condition improved he was rearrested, launched a new hunger strike and served the remainder of his second six-month term.
Allan went on hunger strike to protest his jailing without charge. He suffered some brain damage as a result of the strike.
Allan spoke to reporters following his return late Wednesday, calling his release "a victory."
His plight sparked outrage among Palestinians. The case also drew attention to a contentious Israeli force-feeding law.
