Southampton forward Mane struck late to salvage a 2-2 away draw for Senegal against Madagascar in the first leg of the African 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Friday.
Madagascar striker Faneva Andriatsima opened the scoring in the 27th minute and midfielder Njiva Rakotoharimalala doubled the lead 12 minutes after the break.
Senegal forward Moussa Konate, who plays with Sion in the Swiss league, scored for the Lions of Teranga in the 70th minute, with Mane snatching the equaliser 10 minutes before the final whistle.
The Lions of Teranga will host Madagascar on Tuesday in the second leg of the qualifiers.
Elsewhere, Ghana was held to a goalless draw with Comoros away from home. They will be hoping to make use of their home advantage when they host the Les Coelecantes also on Tuesday in the second leg of the qualifiers.
The winners of the double-legged second-round qualifiers will directly qualify for five four-team groups, whose winners make it to the World Cup in Russia.
