The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign affairs denied on Tuesday that there was systematic mistreatment of Sudanese citizens in Egypt, state-owned MENA reported.
In statements to the Sudanese daily newspaper Al-Youm Al-Tali, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said that there was no systematic of mistreatment by Egyptian police of Sudanese citizens.
He also claimed that the ministry in Cairo was studying the memo issued by the Sudanese embassy in Cairo regarding the allegations on the matter.
The Sudanese embassy in Cairo issued two memos earlier in November to the Egyptian foreign ministry regarding the mistreatment and detention of its citizens.
Recently, Sudanese newspapers shared photos of a badly beaten Sudanese citizen who was allegedly arrested by Egyptian security forces for attempting to change US dollars in Egypt.
According to the Sudanese media, this incident was among several recent incidents involving the detention of Sudanese citizens' because of the exchanging foreign currency.
"There is no discrimination whatsoever towards Sudanese citizens in Egypt," Abu Zeid told the newspaper, as well as adding that the arrest and detention of some Sudanese citizens in Egypt was related to specific incidents and legal violations.
"Sudanese people have lived in Egypt for a long time. Their community is part of the Egyptian society," he said.
In a separate incident, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign affairs demanded on Tuesday an explanation from its Egyptian counterpart regarding the death of at least 15 migrants and the injury of eight more near the Egyptian-Israeli borders in Sinai on Sunday.
An anonymous official source told AP on Sunday that the migrants were caught in fire between Egyptian security forces and smugglers near the Egyptian-Israeli borders.
