In an interview early Thursday with the French magazine Valeurs Actuelles, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad sent a message to French President François Holland saying that he should be serious when he talks about fighting terrorism.

“We hope France will distance itself from the US policy of double standards," Assad said to Valeurs Actuelles.

Assad also added that years ago he warned that "messing with the fault line in Syria will reverberate all over the world."

“Dividing our region means more sources for instability and terrorism throughout the whole world,” Assad explained.

The Syrian presidency was tweeting parts of Assad's interview on its official Twitter account.
