France's national anthem will be played and the French flag raised before every Serie A game this weekend as a mark of solidarity with the victims of last week's terror attacks in Paris.

Serie A officials said in a statement on Friday they were "joining initiatives taken by other leagues" in honouring the victims of last week's attacks in the French capital, which left 130 dead and hundreds injured.

"The Serie A league announces that, to commemorate the victims of the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris and to show our solidarity with the French people, the Marseillaise will be played and the French flag raised in every stadium when the players line up on the weekend of November 21 and 22."

The announcement follows a similar initiative in England's Premier League, days after fans joined together to sing 'La Marseillaise' prior to England's 2-0 friendly win over France at Wembley on Tuesday.

The Paris attacks began with suicide bombings outside the Stade de France while France played Germany in a friendly.
