The population of Egyptians living inside the country’s territory will reach 90 million next Sunday, Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a Thursday statement.

It is estimated that the 90 million mark will be reached at exactly 9:55 pm Cairo Local Time (CLT).

The total number of the Egyptian population domestically and abroad will be 98 million.

As of Thursday afternoon, the number of Egyptians domestically stands at 89,980,155. The figures are routinely updated on CAPMAS’ website.

The capital Cairo has the highest figures with over 9,438,570, while the Greater Cairo metropolitan area has over 20 million residents.

The South Sinai governorate, located by the Red Sea, has a population of 170,062, the lowest among Egypt’s governorates.

In 2014, the average Egyptian population density per square kilometre was 90 people, compared to the world average of 56 individual, according to World Bank statistics. However, as 90 percent of Egyptians live in the Nile Valley and Delta, which represent less than 4 percent of the country's area, the physiological density is believed to be more than 2,000 per square kilometre.
