Cairo State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of Egyptian journalist Ismail Alexandrani 15 days pending investigation into charges of "disseminating false news" and joining the banned Muslim Brotherhood group.
Alexandrani was arrested on Sunday at Hurghada Airport upon his arrival from Germany. He was delivering lectures in Europe about the political situation in Egypt, according to his wife Khadija Gaafar.
The 32 year-old socio-political researcher and freelance investigative journalist specialises in Sinai affairs.
In 2015, he contributed a chapter titled 'Violence in Sinai: the State's War on Society and Producing Terrorism' in the book L'Egypte en revolution(s) (Egypt in revolution[s]).
Alexandrani is also a volunteer researcher on Sinai affairs at the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights.
