Mohamed Elneny's dazzling performance with Basel continued when the international midfielder scored his fifth goal with the team this season on Sunday during the team's 5-6 loss on penalties to Sion in the Swiss Cup quarters.
The 24-year-old scored Basel's first goal after converting a nice free kick in the 79th minute of the game, closing the gap with Sion who are leading 2-0.
Basel's striker Marc Janko levelled the score to 2-2 in stoppage time as the game went to extra time.
The Egyptian international appeared again for penalties, scoring the first kick of his side, but to no avail; Basel lost 6-5 and exited the Swiss Cup for the third consecutive time.
Elneny, a regular member of Egypt's squad, has won three Swiss league titles with Basel since joining in January 2013.
