Basel's Mohamed Elneny (Reuters)
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remained tight-lipped on widespread reports linking his side with a move for Basel's Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, saying the Gunners have yet to make any winter signings.
"You know more than I do," Wenger told a news conference on Wednesday when asked about the Egyptian international.
"Unfortunately we cannot announce anything at the moment about this player because nothing has been concluded."
According to Ahram's Arabic news website, Elneny said on Sunday he has all but joined Arsenal, in what would be a dream move to the elite Premier League.
The 23-year-old, a product of the youth academy of Cairo giants Ahly before moving to fellow Premier League club Arab Contractors, is set to join Arsenal from Basel for 6.5 million sterling pounds, according to English reports. The club is yet to confirm the deal.
He has been a key figure for Basel since joining the club in January 2013, helping them to three league titles. He has also produced some superb displays this season, scoring six goals in all competitions – two in the Swiss league, two in the Europa League and two in the Swiss Cup.
