Zamalek's new coach Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam said Tuesday's win over Dakhlya was important for the Whites and promised to amend the team's mistakes in the coming period.
Zamalek gave Mido a winning start in his second stint as their coach after ending the unbeaten record of Dakhleya this season with a 2-0 Egyptian Premier League win.
"I took charge with just 24 hours ahead of the match so the victory against a good and well organised team was very important. I want to thank the former technical staff members and I hope the win gives the team a morale boost ahead of the coming difficult match against ENPPI," Mido told TV channel LTC after the match.
"I have my own style and I went to a lot of effort to get the players to adapt to it within hours.
"We gained a lot of benefits from the Dakhlya victory. The first is that the players restored their winning spirit," Mido said.
"Also, the team had a different style. The players' moves were well organised and we managed to control the ball a lot.
"I can't deny that we made some mistakes but we will try to avoid them in the coming matches," the 32-year old coach added.
The victory lifted Zamalek to fourth in the league table with 21 points from 10 games, two behind leaders Maqassa who have played two more matches. Dakhleya, who made a brilliant start to the season, remain second with 23 points from 12 games.
Icon Emam happy for winning start
The former nomadic striker Mido, who played for a host of European clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax Amsterdam before hanging up his boots at the age of 30 in 2013, is assisted by Zamalek icon Hazem Emam.
"I would like to congratulate Zamalek fans for the win. Thank you all for your support and confidence," Emam said in a hurry after the match due to the current media ban imposed by the club over the players and technical staff members.
Zamalek will take on ENPPI in the Egyptian league on Saturday.
