Spokesperson for the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) Wahid Seoudi had said that Egypt will witness an 'unprecedented' cold wave on Wednesday.

Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria will experience frost on Wednesday while the Sinai peninsula will witness heavy rains, according to statements by EMA.

Seoudi said that the unstable weather is expected to last until the end of the week.

The rainy weather that has hit the country starting in the early hours of the day has caused traffic congestion, especially in the country's capital Cairo.

Alexandria and Dekheila ports in the coastal city of Alexandria have - for the fifth consecutive day- been closed due to the bad weather conditions.

However, Red Sea ports of Ain Sokhna and Port Fouad are operating normally despite the bad weather conditions, according to the ports spokesperson Abdel Rehim Mostafa.

Cairo will see on Wednesday a high of 10 degrees Celsius and a low of 6. The coastal city of Alexandria will see a high of 12 and a low of 9. Ismailia and Suez will see a high of 11 and a low of 5 degrees.

The Red Sea resort Sharm El-Sheikh will see a high of 16 and a low of 10.

Heavy rains prompted authorities to send trucks on Monday and Sunday to remove water from bridge exits and tunnels.
