A 70-year-old man died and a 71-year-old man was injured in a car crash late Monday on the East Agricultural highway in Upper Egypt's Sohag.
A tuk-tuk, a motorised rickshaw, reportedly crossed the road suddenly in front of an oncoming car, causing the car's driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Both the injured man and the man killed in the accident were in the car that was damaged as a result of the maneuver. The tuk-tuk driver reportedly fled.
The surviving victim has a broken leg and a cut on his head.
Egypt sees fatal traffic accidents on a near-daily basis. The accidents are frequently attributed to poor road maintenance and loosely implemented traffic laws.
