European Union chief Donald Tusk warned Monday that there is a "real" danger of the 28-nation bloc breaking up, calling for greater EU coordination in response to the risk of a so-called "Brexit."

"The risk of break-up is real because this process is indeed very fragile. Handle with care. What is broken cannot be mended," he said in Romania, adding that the EU was at a "critical moment."
