Activists facing a military court in Egypt's second city of Alexandria is held up as the televised trial of the Mubaraks keeps the court officials enthralled

The trial of 14 demonstrators accused of attacking military headquarters in Alexandria on 22 July was delayed on Monday due to the court case against the Mubaraks in Cairo on the same day.

The accused were brought in from detention and into court at 11am, although the trial was scheduled to start at 9am.

Ahmed Mahmoud, one of the accused, said that they were brought in late because those responsible for moving them to court were watching the trial of ousted president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons on television. The detained were moved when the Mubarak trial went into recess.

Those facing military trials in Alexandria include Kefaya member Mohamed Mansour and independent activist Abdallah Khaled. The former National Security personnel arrested by demonstrators during the Alexandria sit-in after being suspected of inciting violence and tensions, is amongst those facing trials.

The trials were secured by dozens of police and military police spread across the streets surrounding the court, blocking several roads. Hundreds of rights activists meanwhile demonstrated against the military trials of civilians.
