Lewis Hamilton ran on the quicker soft tires Wednesday for the first time in preseason testing and posted the fastest time before handing over to teammate Nico Rosberg for the afternoon.
Rosberg was quickest Tuesday as Mercedes offered a glimpse of the speed that utterly dominated the past two seasons, with Mercedes winning 32 races and back-to-back drivers' and constructors' titles.
Hamillton, who ran only on the slower medium tires on Tuesday, clocked 1 minute, 23.622 seconds - more than half a second slower than Rosberg's time on Tuesday.
The British driver was .311 seconds faster than Kevin Magnussen, who drove well for Renault, while four-time champion Sebastian Vettel was almost a second behind in third for Ferrari.
Hamilton also led with 73 laps completed.
